Why choose Air Supported Belt Conveyor

Air Supported Belt Conveyor is composed of three parts:the loading,the discharging and the driving device of General Belt Conveyor.The roller between the head and tail pulley is completely eliminated. But the buffer roller of loading point and some transitional rollers in front of the head pulley are reserved. The conveyor belt is supported on the plenum disk groove, and a certain number of small holes are opened on the disk groove at a certain interval. Air enters the plenum below the support belt from the wind source and is injected into the plenum through the small holes to form a cushion supporting conveyor belt and the upper material between the tray groove and the conveyor belt. So the friction becomes the fluid friction of the air from rolling friction of the roller and idler.
The Air Supported Belt Conveyor can get faster promotion, application and development in recent years because it has unique advantages compared with general-purpose belt conveyors:
1. Smooth and reliable operation. Because the continuous air cushion replaces the intermittent idler support, the operation is very smooth and reliable. The material will not bump on the conveyor belt and it will not spill. It is particularly advantageous to deliver a mixture of differently proportioned ingredients.
2. Low running resistance and energy consumption. In general, the simulated friction resistance coefficient of the universal belt conveyor is 0.015-0.035.The well-designed air supported belt conveyor is 0.006-0.012.The drag reduction is approximately 3 times. The energy consumption of the air-supply source of the horizontally conveyed air-cushion belt conveyor is 10-30% lower than that of the universal belt conveyor, and the energy-saving effect is significant.
3. The bearing area increases. At the same groove angle,the bearing area of air supported belt conveyor is the same as the belt conveyor. However, since air supported belt conveyor can adopt a larger groove angle and improve the bearing area under the same bandwidth.
4. Simple structure, low manufacturing costs. Air supported belt conveyor’s design is simple and eliminating many moving parts. Plenum is a thin box type,easy to mass production. Due to the plenum stiffness, you can save the belt conveyor racks. Therefore the manufacturing cost should be lower than the belt conveyor. However, due to the current low degree of automation of plenum manufacturing processes, no dedicated equipment or automated production lines, it is still in the single-piece and small-batch production phase. Parts of belt conveyors have already adopted advanced technologies and automated equipment in production.So the current production costs are basically the same.
5. Low maintenance costs. Because there are few moving parts, almost no roller support which can save a lot of roller maintenance costs. If the belt conveyor has a service life of 5 years, the roller maintenance cost per kilometer can be saved more than $14,000 per year.
6. Less infrastructure costs. Air supported belt conveyors can operate at higher speeds. Smaller bandwidths can be used at the same delivery volume, reducing equipment size, thereby saving infrastructure area and costs. In particular, the construction cost of the coal mine underground roadway is considerable.
7. Lightweight belts. As the running resistance is reduced, the energy consumption is reduced, and the maximum working tension of the conveyor belt is reduced. Therefore, a light conveyor belt can be used. The Beijing Coal Mining Bureau Wang Ping coal mine was converted from a belt conveyor to air supported belt conveyor, which used a 6-layer canvas conveyor belt. After the conversion, a 4-layer canvas conveyor belt is used, which is in good condition.
8. A large transmission inclination angle. The angle of conveyor belt depends on the dynamic friction coefficient between the material and the conveyor belt, conveyor belt into the slot after the groove angle, material dynamic stacking angle, unloading methods and speed and so on.For belt conveyors, due to the drooping of the conveyor belt between the two idler groups, the climbing degree during operation is increased, and at the same time, the material is caused to fall due to the vibration of the material caused by the running of the conveyor belt on the idler roller. So the conveying inclination angle is generally 10-15 degrees smaller than the dynamic stacking angle of the material. The air supported belt conveyor is a continuous air-cushion support, and the material runs on the conveyor belt very smoothly. Therefore, the transport tilt angle is generally smaller than the dynamic stacking angle of the material by about 5 degrees. In other words, the tilt angle of the air supported belt conveyor can be increased by 5-10 degrees.
