Do You Know the Joint Structure of the Belt Bucket Elevator

The lifting height of the belt bucket elevator, which is the highest lifting height among the lifting height of the bucket elevators of all types, can reach over 120 meters. The adopted steel core rubber belt(steel belt for short) of the bucket elevator is both traction element and carrying component. Below we will introduce the conveyor belt joint structure of bucket elevator with steel tape.

The belt bucket elevator is a series product. There are eight specifications for the belt bucket elevator of the bucket width between 250mm~1250mm with corresponding bandwidth of steel tape ranging from 300mm to 1300mm,therefore, there are also eight specifications of conveyor belt joints.

1.1 Clamping the two ends of the tape together with a splint

The conveyor belt joints are clamped together with two splints and a cushion block, with high strength bolts through the splints, cushion block and steel tape clamped together to form a ring.
1.Splint: In order to reduce the weight of the joint and the eccentric weight of the traction parts, the splint is made of high- hardness and high-strength aluminum alloy. The arc radius of the transition surface of the conveyor belt ranges from 40mm to 60mm, which not only meets the application requirement , but also does not make the size of the splints too large.

2.The cushion block:The cushion block play a role in the close connection,smooth transition and uniform compression of the bended steel belt between the splints. The curve of the tail of the cushion block fills up the gap left by bending tape and also minimize the gap left by the joints winding the roller so as to reduce the impact vibration by the roller. The cushion block is made of the same aluminum alloy as the splint. The cushion block is made under the pressure of the mould to obtain high dimensional accuracy.

3.The high-strength bolt:The joints are connected together by two rows of high-strength bolts through the upper and lower splints, the steel belt and the cushion block. According to the sizes of joints, M16~M24 bolts are selected. The strength grade of the high strength bolt is 10.9. Because of the varied thickness of the splint section , there are two bolt lengths. The clamping force of the two rows of high-strength bolts can withstand the tension generated by the steel tape. After the bolts are tightened, the connection of the steel tapes is completed.

1.2 The connection fo the steel wire ropes

In the steel tape, there is a row of longitudinal steel wire ropes of which the diameter ranges from φ3.5 mm to φ6 mm while the spacing between each two ropes ranges from 8 mm to 12 mm. These wire ropes are the real load-bearing bodies. The connection of the steel wire ropes is a critical step of the conveyor belt joint ,which is directly related to the firmness and reliability of the conveyor belt joint. Peel off the rubber of the wire rope at each ends of the tape and then connect them together. In this way, the bearing bodies of steel tapes are connected exactly in a real sense. With the clamping of the splints and the direct connection of the wire ropes, the wire ropes the will not displace and extend oppositely and then it is safe for use. In terms of connection technology, the connection of wire rope adopted is different from the connection filled with curable adhesive, and its advantages are as belows:

1.The strength and reliability of the connection are obviously greater than that of the auxiliary connection of curable adhesive;

2.When there is need to adjust the length of the tape, the connector can be opened again, the length of the tape will not be short for that.

3.The brittle curing glue materials at low temperature and soft colloid at high temperature can be prevented. There are two kinds of wire rope connection: steel cable clamp and depression bar.

1. The steel cable clamp:

With Y8 steel cable clamp, each of them can be put into 4 to 6 steel wire ropes making them staggered up and down, clamping the part of them close to the root and locking the screw nuts. The steel cable clamp is the most professional and effective fastener for fastening wire rope, simple and reliable. There are 20 to 30 steel wire rope clamps in the large conveyor belt joints, and it takes quite some time to clamp them all one by one.

2. The depression bar

Clamp the steel wire ropes with three depression bars, put the steel wire ropes in the two gaps between the depression bars, lock the high-strength bolts through the depression bars and then all the ropes clamped together. The concave-convex interface of the depression bars are designed to compress the wire ropes and prevent them from slipping.Because the wire ropes are not braided one by one, it is faster
to make joints by the depression bars.

1.3 the protection of the wire rope joint

The bent steel plate is wrapped on the outside of the wire rope joint and fixed it on the splint with screws that can effectively protect the joint from the abrasion of the wire rope,the steel cable clamp and the depression bar by the materials, which will improve the service life of the conveyor belt joint.
