Do you really know the Conveyor Pulley

Conveyor pulleys play an important role in the performance and reliability of global belt conveyor systems. Because of this important role, pulley selection has become a key process to ensure equipment performance. Incorrect size and selection can lead to premature failure of the pulley and costly downtime. Conveyor pulleys are intended for use in belt conveyor systems as a means of driving, steering, providing tension, or tracking conveyor belts. The designed use of conveyor rollers is different from that of conveyor rollers. The conveyor roller is designed to be used on the bed. The conveyor belt is used to support the products being transported and is usually under the conveyor belt floor of the return part to support the back of the conveyor belt.
Drive/Head Pulley – The conveyor roller drives the conveyor belt. It is usually mounted on an external bearing and powered by an external drive source.
Idler Pulley –Any pulley used in a non-driven position is designed to rotate freely and be driven by a belt.

Return/Tail Pulley–The conveyor roller is used to turn the conveyor belt back to the drive roller. The rear roller can use an inner bearing or be mounted on an outer bearing, usually at the end of the conveyor belt. Take-up drum on a shorter conveyor belt.
Snub Pulley–Conveyor pulleys are used to increasing the winding of the belt around the driving wheels, usually to improve traction.
Take-Up Pulley –Conveyor belt rollers are used to eliminating slack on the conveyor belt and maintain tension. Recovery pulleys are more common on longer conveyor belts.
Bend Pulley–Conveyor rollers are used to transferring and tension the belt on the curve in the conveyor system.
Conveyor Roller –It is used as a support for transporting products in a conveyor frame or as a support for a conveyor belt in a return line under the conveyor frame.
CONVEYOR PULLEY TERMINOLOGY
Pulley/Core Diameter – The outside diameter of the cylindrical body of a conveyor pulley, without coating.
Finish Diameter – The outside diameter of a coated pulley (core diameter + 2 times the coating/wrap thickness).
Face Width – The length of a pulley’s cylindrical body. This area is intended to act as the contact surface for the conveyor belt.
Wall/Rim Thickness– The initial thickness of the tube, pipe, or formed plate that makes up the cylindrical body of the pulley.
End Disks – The plates welded on the ends of a pulley which act as the medium between the hub and rim.
Crown/Profile– A change in the shape of the pulley face designed for the purpose of enhancing belt tracking.
Shaft/Axle – The mounting mechanism for the pulley assembly.
Hub – The point of connection between the shaft and end disk or pulley wall.
Bore Diameter – The inner diameter of a pulley at the point where the shaft is inserted Bearing Centers – The distance between the center lines of each bearing race in which a pulley is mounted.
Hub Centers – The distance between the center line of each hub contact surface.
Safety Factor – The capacity of a system or component to perform beyond its expected load
