On September 2, 2025, the
heavy-duty apron feeder produced and manufactured by our company for the coal industry, with a processing range of 800- 1,200 tons per hour, was successfully loaded onto vehicles and dispatched.
In fact, the customer got in touch with our company as early as January 25. During this period, our technical team has been in close technical communication, discussion and adjustment with the customer. According to the special working conditions of the coal industry and the specific requirements proposed by the customer, various parameters of apron feeder have been finely optimized.
This apron feeder is applied in open-pit coal mines, transporting freshly mined raw coal to mineral sizer for crushing processing. According to the information provided by the customer, the maximum feeding size of raw coal is 800 millimeters. According to the actual production demand of the customer, parameters such as the chain plate width, effective length and feeding speed of the apron feeder were designed. The setting of these parameters enables apron feeder to stably meet the customer's processing capacity demand of 800 to 1,200 tons per hour, enhancing production efficiency.

Chain plate width
When determining the width of the chain plate, it is necessary to fully consider the maximum feeding size of the raw coal and the possible material fluctuations to ensure that the width of the chain plate can not only meet the requirements of the maximum feeding size but also avoid unnecessary energy consumption due to being too wide. According to the maximum feed size of raw coal provided by the customer, which is 800mm, when designing the chain plate width of the apron feeder, it must be larger than the maximum size of raw coal, especially for handling blocky materials. Considering that in order to prevent a single piece of material from exceeding the chain plate when placed horizontally, usually the width of the chain plate needs to be 1.5 to 2 times the maximum size of the raw coal, and also considering that a certain margin is reserved during transportation to adapt to the possible accumulation state of super-large pieces of raw coal or materials, the width of the chain plate of this apron feeder is finally set at 1600mm.

Effective length
Apron feeder is usually the transfer of raw coal from the silo to the subsequent equipment mineral sizer, belt conveyor. The effective length needs to match the spatial distance on site. Combined with the customer 's site conditions and the continuity requirements of material transportation, a certain length is reserved for material buffering or climbing. Through precise calculation and simulation, The most suitable length is determined to be 25000mm to ensure the stability and smoothness of the material during the conveying process.
Feeding speed
To achieve the target processing capacity of 800 to 1,200 tons per hour, it needs to be realized through speed adjustment. Moreover, the setting of the feeding speed is based on the customer's production requirements and the overall performance of the apron feeder, combined with the previously set chain plate width and effective length. It can be calculated that the speed matching the processing capacity range of 800 to 1,200 tons per hour is 0.03-0.36m/s, which is the optimal speed that can both ensure the processing capacity and avoid overloading of the apron feeder.
Structural Analysis of Apron feeder
The Apron feeder is a device suitable for material transportation. Compared with belt conveyors, the main advantage of this equipment lies in its ability to directly handle materials.
Drive unit
The main advantage of the Apron feeder's drive unit lies in its baseless installation. The drive unit is connected to the rack of the equipment through a torque rod and support, and does not require the user of the equipment to provide an additional installation base. At the same time, the connection form between the reducer in the drive device and the main shaft of the main shaft device is the hollow shaft connection of the locking disc. This connection form is more practical and safe.
Spindle assembly
The main shaft device of Apron feeder adopts bearing housing, sprocket and support wheel as the main structure. The main shaft assembly is connected to the head of the frame through the bearing housing in the form of bolt connection. The main function of the sprocket is to drive the chain to move.
Idler wheel
In addition to the selection of bearings being similar to that of idler wheels, the idler wheel of Apron feeder also has a very important function, which is to prevent the chain plates from deviating during the transportation of materials. Therefore, in the design process of the rollers of the idler wheel, a protrusion is designed on one side, which can effectively restrict the lateral movement of the chain plates.
Rack
The rack of the Apron feeder is very crucial in the entire equipment, supporting the weight of all components on the equipment and the weight of the transported materials. Therefore, sufficient attention should be given during the design process. The frame of the Apron feeder is an I-beam structure welded from steel plates. Several reinforcing plates are welded between the upper and lower flange plates. The two I-beam main beams are composed of several channel steels and the I-beams are welded into a whole. Its structure is firm and stable.
