Components of the Sidewall Belt Conveyor
Wave-shaped edge conveyor belt
It is the core conveying component of the Sidewall Belt Conveyor. It is composed of a base belt, wave-shaped edge and cross beams. The base belt is responsible for bearing the overall load and providing sufficient tensile strength. The wave-shaped edge can prevent the materials from sliding during the large-angle conveying process. The cross beams are used to separate and support the materials, and together with the edge, they achieve large-angle and high-height material conveying.
Drive device
It is the power part of the conveyor, consisting of an electric motor, a shaft-mounted reducer, and a wedge-type reverse-acting device.
Drive drum
This is the main component for power transmission. The conveyor belt runs by the friction between it and the drive drum. Drive drums come in rubber-coated and smooth surfaces. The rubber-coated drums are designed to increase the adhesion between the drum and the conveyor belt.
Swivel drum
It is used to change the running direction of the conveyor belt. The swivel drum is located on the lower surface (non-bearing surface) of the conveyor belt.
Pressure drum
It is used to change the running direction of the conveyor belt. The pressure drum is located on the upper surface (bearing surface) of the conveyor belt.
Support roller
The support roller is used to support the conveyor belt and the materials on it, ensuring its stable operation. There are two types: upper parallel support rollers and lower flat support rollers.
Support drum
The support drum is used to support the lower branch of the conveyor belt on the convex arc frame. It is supported on the empty edges on both sides of the guard edge of the conveyor belt. Several sets of support drums form an arc segment for changing the direction of the conveyor belt. The support drums are suspended.
Vertical roller
The vertical roller is used to restrict the deviation of the conveyor belt and is installed on the upper and lower transition frame. There are 4 on each filter section frame, with 2 on each side (upper and lower).

Packing wheel cleaning device
It is used to tap the back of the conveyor belt to shake off the materials adhered to it.
Tensioning device
It ensures that the conveyor belt has sufficient tension and prevents slipping between the conveyor belt and the drive drum; it also limits the sag of the conveyor belt in each support, ensuring the normal operation of the conveyor. This series uses a spiral tensioning device.
Other components
Frame, head hopper, head guard, material guide chute, intermediate frame, intermediate frame legs, etc., play the roles of support, dust prevention, and material guiding in the conveyor. The intermediate frame legs of this series have three types: low-style, Chinese-style, and high-style. The lower horizontal section and the inclined section only use low-style intermediate frame legs, while the upper and lower horizontal sections are equipped with different intermediate frame legs (low-style, Chinese-style, and high-style) according to different head frames (low-style, Chinese-style, and high-style head frames).
The features of Sidewall Belt Conveyor
- The sidewall belt conveyor has a wide allowable conveying angle, up to 90°, which saves floor space, equipment investment and construction costs, resulting in good economic benefits.
- The structure is simple. The main components can be used interchangeably with ordinary belt conveyors, making it convenient for use and maintenance.
- It operates reliably, without the problems such as chain jamming, chain drifting, and chain breakage that often occur in buried scraper conveyors, and without the frequent slipping and bucket dropping problems of bucket elevators. Its reliability is almost the same as that of general belt conveyors.
- It operates smoothly and has low noise.
- Since there is no excavation resistance during loading and no internal and external friction of the materials during operation, energy consumption is low.
- It is easy to install simple and effective sealing equipment to meet environmental protection requirements.
Application scope of Sidewall Belt Conveyor
The Sidewall Belt Conveyor is a continuous conveying equipment for general-purpose bulk materials. However, it uses a conveyor belt with wavy side edges and cross partitions. Therefore, it is particularly suitable for large inclination and vertical 90° conveyance.
It can be used in industries such as coal, chemicals, metallurgy, power, light industry, grain, and ports. It conveys various bulk materials with a bulk density ranging from 0.5 to 4.2 t/m³ within a working environment temperature range of -15℃ to +40℃.
For materials with special requirements, such as those with high temperatures, containing acids, alkalis, oils, or organic solvents, special conveyor belts are required.
Within the conveying inclination range of 0° to 90°, the maximum vertical conveying material particle size is 400mm.
Daily Maintenance and Care
During normal production, daily maintenance and care are extremely important. Therefore, equipment maintenance personnel must check during routine inspections whether there are any abnormal conditions in each part of the belt, such as cuts, cracks, or de-gumming damage. It is required to ensure that each idler rotates flexibly and replace those that do not rotate or are damaged in time. Every shift, check the vibrating device, cleaning device, and ensure they are working properly. Otherwise, adjustments or replacements of rubber scrapers, etc. should be made. Pay more attention to the working conditions of the transmission device and other parts to prevent the belt from deviating, ensuring the belt runs in the center line. The deviation of the edge guard belt may sometimes seriously damage the edge guard and gradually de-gum. Clean the working area every day, with a focus on areas with more accumulated materials at the machine tail.
Regular Maintenance and Care
It is necessary to regularly add oil and lubricate each rotating part, bearings, and gears. Disassemble and clean the reducer, check the wear condition of the gears, and replace severely worn ones. Replace the cooling lubricating oil in time. Replace other worn parts or components in a timely manner. Every day, check all anchor bolts, idlers, crossbeams, and frame connection bolts, and re-lubricate and tighten or replace the belt.
